Is Jesus the Shepherd in the 23rd Psalm?
Written by Rob Armstrong
Psalm 23:1 says, "The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want." In John 10:11, Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep."
Psalm 23:2 says, "He makes me to lie down in green pastures." In John 10:9, Jesus said, "By me, if any man enters in, he will be saved and go in and out and find pasture."
Psalm 23:3 says, "He leads me in the paths of righteousness." In John 10:3&28, Jesus said,
"I call my own sheep by name and lead them out...I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish."
Psalm 23:4 says, "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me." In Luke 12:32 & Hebrews 13:5, Jesus said, "Do not be afraid...I will never leave you or forsake you." (Luke 12:32 & Hebrews 13:5)
Psalm 23:5 says,"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." In John 6:47, 48 & 51, Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever eats this bread will live forever...I tell you the truth, whoever believes in me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life."
Is Jesus the shepherd in the 23rd Psalm? Is Jesus your shepherd? Did you know that the good shepherd laid down His life for you?
On the cross Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice and payment for all of your sins. He was punished in your place, so that you would never have to suffer the righteous judgment and condemnation you rightfully deserve. There is only one thing left for you to do, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31) Those who trust in Him alone for forgiveness of sins and eternal life can truly say, “The Lord is my shepherd.” Psalm 23:1
