God Meets Our Financial Needs
He Cares for You!
Jesus said, "Your Father knows what things you need, before ye ask him... That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear." (Matthew 6:8 & 6:25 NLT)
We all worry about our material needs from time to time. The disciples of Jesus had reason for concern. Most of them were commercial fisherman and we read in Matthew 4:20, “They left their nets and followed Jesus.” Because of their choice to travel with Jesus on His itinerant ministry, they found themselves away from their family business, unemployed and without work. Later, in the book of Acts we see displaced Christians in Jerusalem (who had been forced out of their homes) without income and needing financial help and assistance. Regardless of where we live, it is easy to worry about financial and material security. However, the Bible reminds us that our God and Father possesses infinite wealth and He promises to meet our daily needs!
“For every beast of the forest is Mine - the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird of the mountains, And everything that moves in the field is Mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all it contains.” (Psalm 50:10&12)
"The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof." (1 Corinthians 10:26)
“Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it.” (Deuteronomy 10:14)
If God has so much, why do His children sometimes find themselves with very little? First of all, God uses wealth, or lack of wealth, to test and strengthen our faith. In Deuteronomy 8.3, God tells Israel that their hunger and destitution in the desert was intended to teach them to rely on the promises in His Word. Secondly, God allows some of His people to be in need, so that others who have more money and more material possessions can share with those who have very little. This ultimately brings glory to God!
"Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be equal." (2 Corinthians 8:14 NLT)
"If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead, use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need." (Ephesians 4:28 NLT)
"For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God. As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you." (2 Corinthians 9:10-14 NLT)
No matter where we find ourselves economically and financially, we have God’s promises on which we can depend...
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
“I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his sons begging bread.” (Psalm 37:25)
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; so that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want [I shall not lack]." (Psalm 23:1)
Our Good Shepherd leads, feeds, provides for, and protects His sheep! He cares for us like no other!
