No Condemnation
(Written by Miles Stanford)
"There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus!" (Romans 8:1)
Until the believer realizes that his life is safely hid with Christ in God, he will never get free from the harassment of the enemy.
"When He giveth quietness [and peace], who then can make trouble?" (Job 34:29)
There is a world of difference between the nagging, corroding condemnations of the devil, and the clear [and encouraging] convictions of the Holy Spirit. The enemy speaks in generalities, seeking to smear us by a vague sense [and feeling] of failure, uncleanness, confusion, or heaviness of spirit. The answer to this is...
"There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus!"
The Holy Spirit speaks specifically, and His convicting, although rebuking us, is sweet, clean, true, and acceptable. He points out some exact and immediate action by which we have temporarily given in to sin. [He then offers, forgiveness, healing and hope, because our sins (past, present and future) have all been paid for already on the cross!]
Satan points downward to despair, but the Spirit points upward to cleansing [and freedom]! [The Devil's strategy is to fill us with guilt, confusion, and hopelessness]. The Holy Spirit's work always brings us quietness, clarity and deliberateness. Our Master's touch still has the same power and effect as when He touched the hand of Peter's mother-in-law; "the fever leaves!" (Luke 4:39)
"...God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie and don’t tell the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us [of] the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:6-9)
"In nothing be terrified by your adversaries." (Philippians 1:28)
"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." (1 John 4:5)
"We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. In this, love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is, even so we are in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear..." (1 John 4:18-20)
